The University of Évora is located in a geographical area where, in the past few years, new funerary sites have been identified and excavated. These sites encompass a wide range of chronological periods and open new horizons over the reality of funerary practises from Prehistory to Medieval times in Portuguese territory. New methodologies have been tested in the field and astonishing results have been obtained on the management of mortuary practises and long term use of funerary spaces.
The Centre for Art History and Artistic Research (CHAIA), in the University of Évora, is pleased to invite all archaeologists, anthropologists and other people interested in presenting their work on the excavation and analysis of sites and remains exhumed from funerary context, in a meeting to be held at Évora from April 29th to May 1, 2013.The event will focus on the discussion of theoretical approaches to funerary archaeology, and new data obtained from archaeological research, particularly focusing on transition and change.
This second international meeting on the Archaeology of Transition focuses on new data obtained from funerary sites, encompassing multiple disciplines contributing to new information on mortuary practices.

2. Funerary Practises in Roman Classical and Medieval Times
